Scrap Steel Crusher

The scrap steel crusher is a high-speed hammer crushing machine used to reduce prepared light and medium scrap steel into smaller, denser and screen-controlled pieces for conveying, magnetic separation, storage, transportation or further recycling.

Typical materials include light scrap steel, steel sheets, color steel tiles, empty metal drums, prepared paint buckets, appliance steel shells, bicycle and motorcycle frames, fabrication offcuts and prepared vehicle body panels. Material dimensions, thickness and attached components must remain within the feeding limits of the selected crusher.

A high-speed rotor drives the hammers to repeatedly impact, deform and break the scrap steel inside the crushing chamber. The hammers, liner plates and screen grate work together to reduce the material, while the selected screen opening helps control the discharge size.

Properly sized light steel scrap may be fed directly into the crusher. Bulky, bundled, compressed or difficult-to-feed steel scrap may first require pre-cutting or primary size reduction by a scrap steel shredder before hammer crushing.

After crushing, a magnetic separator can recover iron and steel from loosened non-metallic residues or mixed processed material. Screening, material spreading and additional sorting equipment can be added according to the incoming scrap and required recovered products.

When suitable conductive non-ferrous metals are mixed with non-metallic residues, an eddy current separator may be considered after ferrous metal removal and proper material preparation. It is not a standard requirement for every scrap steel crushing project.

The scrap steel crusher can operate as an individual machine or form part of a scrap metal recycling line with controlled feeding, material conveying, magnetic separation, optional sorting, dust collection and centralized control.

Heavy steel beams, thick solid shafts, railway steel, oversized castings, sealed containers, pressure vessels, batteries and hazardous materials require separate handling, hydraulic shearing or another suitable processing method.

Working Principle

The scrap steel crusher uses a motor to drive the rotor and hammers at high speed. After prepared scrap steel enters the crushing chamber, the rotating hammers repeatedly impact, deform and break the material. Friction and compression between the hammers, liner plates and screen grate further reduce the scrap until it can pass through the selected screen opening.

The screen or grate helps control the discharge size according to the downstream processing requirement. After crushing, the material can be conveyed to magnetic separation, where iron and steel are recovered from loosened non-metallic residues or mixed processed material.

Screening, material spreading, manual sorting or other separation equipment can be added according to the material composition. Eddy current separation should only be considered when suitable conductive non-ferrous metals remain after ferrous metal removal and proper material preparation.

Through crushing, screening and sorting, the processed scrap metal becomes easier for storage, transportation, magnetic separation, resale or further recycling. The final material cleanliness, particle size and separation effect depend on raw material composition, feeding size, screen opening and sorting equipment configuration.

When an uncrushable object enters the crushing chamber, the tramp metal protection system can help stop the equipment or release the obstruction according to the machine configuration. This function helps reduce the risk of serious damage, but it does not replace material inspection and removal of unsuitable feed before crushing.

Machine Housing

The housing of the scrap steel crusher is made of extra-thick steel plates. The heavy-duty welded structure provides strong support for high-impact crushing and helps maintain stable operation when processing scrap steel, metal sheets, paint buckets, oil drums and other recyclable metal materials.

Wear-Resistant Liners

Rotor Discs

Pin Shafts

Wear-Resistant Hammers

Lubrication and Cooling System

The main shaft bearing system can be equipped with lubrication and cooling devices. Proper lubrication helps reduce bearing wear, control the operating temperature and maintain smooth main shaft operation during continuous production.

Temperature Monitoring

The main shaft bearing system can be equipped with temperature sensors to monitor its operating condition. During extended high-speed operation, temperature monitoring helps detect abnormal heating and supports safer equipment operation.

Optional Feeding and Pressing Device
