Equipment Introduction

Non Ferrous Metal Sorting Line

The non ferrous metal sorting line is a configurable recycling system used to recover conductive non-ferrous metals from prepared mixed scrap, processing residues and suitable non-metallic material streams.

Depending on the incoming material, the process may begin with primary size reduction by a twin shaft shredder or further material liberation by a scrap metal crusher. Properly sized material may enter the screening and separation stages directly when additional crushing is not required.

A magnetic separator removes exposed iron, steel and other ferrous components before the remaining non-magnetic material enters subsequent sorting stages. Screening and material spreading equipment may be used to control particle size and provide a more uniform material layer.

After ferrous metal removal and suitable material preparation, an eddy current separator can recover aluminum, copper-containing particles and other conductive non-ferrous metals from appropriate non-conductive residues such as plastic, rubber or glass.

An eddy current separator does not normally separate mixed aluminum, copper, zinc and other non-ferrous metals into individual high-purity products. When separate metal fractions are required, density separation, sensor-based sorting, color sorting, X-ray sorting, manual sorting or other specialized equipment may be needed.

Airflow sorting can be added when the processed material contains plastic film, foam, rubber, dust or other lightweight impurities. The suitability of each sorting stage depends on particle size, density difference, moisture, material shape and feeding condition.

The final line configuration depends on the feed material, composition, maximum dimensions, particle-size distribution, required capacity, target recovered materials, product requirements and available installation space.

Working Principle

Non Ferrous Metal Sorting Line Working Process

1. Material Evaluation and Preparation

The feed material should be evaluated before processing. Material composition, maximum dimensions, particle-size distribution, moisture, contamination and target recovered fractions determine the required equipment configuration.

2. Optional Size Reduction

Bulky or tangled material may require primary shredding. Material requiring further liberation or smaller output may be processed by a suitable crusher.

Size reduction is optional. Material that already meets the required particle-size and liberation conditions may enter the screening and separation stages directly.

3. Screening and Material Spreading

Screening separates oversized, undersized and fine material fractions. A vibrating feeder or material spreading unit distributes the feed into a more uniform layer before magnetic and non-ferrous separation.

4. Ferrous Metal Removal

The prepared material passes through magnetic separation to remove iron, steel and other exposed ferrous components. Effective ferrous removal helps protect downstream sorting equipment and improves the stability of subsequent separation.

5. Eddy Current Separation

The remaining non-magnetic material passes through an eddy current separator. Conductive non-ferrous metals follow a different discharge trajectory from non-conductive materials such as plastic, rubber and glass.

Separation performance depends on conductivity, density, particle size, shape, moisture, feeding thickness, belt speed, magnetic rotor configuration and splitter adjustment.

6. Optional Light-Material Separation

Airflow sorting may be used to remove plastic film, foam, dust and other lightweight impurities when sufficient density and aerodynamic differences exist between the materials.

7. Optional Metal Grade Separation

When aluminum, copper, zinc, brass or stainless steel must be collected as separate products, additional density separation, sensor-based sorting, color sorting, X-ray sorting or manual sorting may be required.

8. Material Collection and Line Control

The recovered fractions are transferred to separate collection areas. A PLC control system coordinates the feeding, conveying, screening and sorting equipment and helps reduce material accumulation between processing stages.
