Single Shaft Shredder

A single shaft shredder is designed for coarse shredding, volume reduction, and recycling preparation of plastics and industrial solid waste. The machine uses a single cutting rotor together with a hydraulic pusher. The pusher continuously moves the material toward the rotating rotor, where rotary knives and fixed knives cut, tear, and compress the material.

Unlike many double shaft shredders, a single shaft shredder is equipped with a screen beneath the rotor. The screen helps control the final output size and makes the machine suitable for recycling processes that require more consistent material dimensions. The shredded material can be transferred to washing, sorting, granulating, compacting, or other downstream equipment.

The modular construction provides convenient access to the cutting chamber, knives, and screen. The control system adjusts the hydraulic pusher according to the rotor load. If an overload occurs, the pusher can stop or retract, while the rotor can reverse before restarting.

Working Principle

After entering the cutting chamber, the material falls between the rotor and the hydraulic pusher. The pusher moves forward according to the programmed sequence and forces the material into contact with the rotating rotor.The rotary knives installed on the rotor work against the fixed knives mounted on the machine frame. As the rotor turns, the knives grip, cut, tear, and compress the material. The hydraulic pusher maintains feeding pressure, which is particularly useful when processing bulky, irregular, hollow, or low-density materials.

The shredded material falls toward the screen beneath the rotor. Material smaller than the screen opening passes through and is discharged. Oversized pieces remain inside the cutting chamber and continue to be processed until they reach the required size.

During operation, the control system monitors the main motor load. When the load exceeds the preset level, the hydraulic pusher stops or retracts. The rotor may also reverse briefly to release the material. Normal operation resumes after the load returns to an acceptable level. This process helps protect the motor, gearbox, rotor, and cutting knives.

The basic working process is:
