Equipment Introduction

Single Shaft Shredder

The single shaft shredder is a screen-equipped size-reduction machine used to process plastic lumps, thick-walled pipes, plastic pallets, crates, drums, wood waste, rubber products and selected industrial recycling materials.

A hydraulic pushing system moves the material toward a single rotating cutter shaft. Replaceable rotor knives work against stationary knives to repeatedly cut the feed until it becomes small enough to pass through the selected bottom screen.

Compared with a twin shaft shredder used mainly for coarse primary size reduction, the single shaft shredder provides screen-controlled discharge and is more suitable when smaller and relatively consistent output is required.

Large hollow products, bundled materials and bulky irregular waste may require pre-cutting or primary processing by a twin shaft shredder before entering the single shaft machine. Whether pre-shredding is required depends on the material dimensions, feeding condition and rotor chamber size.

Ferrous attachments, tools, bolts and other hard metal contaminants should be removed before feeding. A magnetic separator may be installed in a downstream process when recoverable iron or steel is present in suitable processed material.

Working Principle

Single Shaft Shredder Working Process

Material Inspection and Preparation

Feed material should be inspected before shredding. Heavy metal parts, tools, bolts, batteries, sealed containers, pressure vessels, flammable items and unidentified hazardous materials must be removed or handled separately.

The material dimensions, wall thickness, hardness and bulk density should remain within the processing limits of the selected rotor and hydraulic pushing system.

Material Feeding

Prepared material is loaded into the shredding chamber by a conveyor, loader or another suitable feeding device. The chamber dimensions and feeding method should be selected according to the maximum material size and required capacity.

Hydraulic Material Pushing

A hydraulic pusher moves the material toward the rotating cutter shaft at a controlled rate. The pushing pressure and movement sequence can be adjusted according to the material resistance and rotor load.

When the rotor load increases, the control system can pause or retract the pusher to reduce excessive pressure on the cutting system.

Rotor Cutting

The single rotor carries replaceable knives that rotate past stationary knives mounted inside the shredding chamber. The material is repeatedly cut and sheared between the moving and stationary cutting edges.

Screen-Controlled Discharge

Material that meets the selected bottom screen opening is discharged from the shredder. Oversized pieces remain inside the chamber and continue to be cut until they can pass through the screen.

The final output depends on the screen opening, rotor knife arrangement, stationary knife clearance, rotor speed, material toughness and feeding condition.

Material Discharge

The shredded output falls onto a discharge conveyor or into a collection area. It can then be transferred to screening, magnetic separation, washing, granulation or another downstream recycling process.

Overload Protection

The control system monitors the rotor load and can stop or reverse the cutter shaft when excessive resistance or a material jam is detected.

The hydraulic pusher can retract to release pressure and allow the rotor to clear the obstruction. This protection does not replace material inspection before feeding.

Optional Dust and Liquid Collection

Dust collection can be configured around the feeding and discharge points when processing dry or dusty material. A liquid collection system may be considered when the feed contains residual water or other suitable non-hazardous liquid.

Applications

  • Size reduction of plastic lumps and injection molding waste

  • Shredding of plastic pallets, crates, drums and thick-walled pipes

  • Processing of wood boards, wooden pallets and packaging waste

  • Preparation of selected rubber products for downstream recycling

  • Controlled shredding of paper cores, cardboard and production offcuts

  • Size reduction of suitable industrial recycling materials before screening or granulation

03

Features and Advantages

  • Low-Speed, High-Torque Shredding

The motor and gearbox drive the rotor at a relatively low speed while providing high torque. This design is suitable for bulky, irregular, and tough plastic or industrial waste. Low-speed operation also helps reduce dust, noise, and material ejection.

  • Controlled Hydraulic Feeding

The hydraulic pusher automatically adjusts its movement according to the main motor load. The pushing system keeps the material in contact with the rotor and reduces bridging or idle rotation when processing plastic film, woven bags, plastic lumps, and hollow products.

  • Adjustable Output Size

A removable screen is installed beneath the rotor. Different screen openings can be selected according to downstream processing requirements. Oversized pieces remain in the cutting chamber until they are small enough to pass through the screen.

  • Replaceable Cutting Knives

The rotary knives and fixed knives are removable. Worn knives can be replaced, sharpened, or repositioned. Different knife materials and surface treatments are available for materials with different hardness and wear characteristics.

  • Automatic Overload Protection

The control system monitors the motor current and rotor load. If an overload occurs, the machine can stop or retract the hydraulic pusher and reverse the rotor. This reduces impact on the drive system and helps clear temporary material blockages.

  • Wide Material Application

The machine can process plastic lumps, pipes, pallets, film, woven bags, rubber, wood, wires and cables, and general industrial solid waste. The rotor, knives, screen, and drive system can be configured for different materials.

  • Convenient Maintenance

The cutting chamber, screen, and knife area are designed for routine inspection and maintenance. The hydraulic, electrical, and transmission systems are arranged separately to simplify servicing and replacement of wear parts.

  • Customizable Configuration

The hopper size, rotor length, knife quantity, motor power, screen opening, feeding method, and discharge conveyor can be customized according to the feed size, required capacity, material characteristics, and output requirements.

Technical Specifications

Parameter description diagram for Single Shaft Shredder for Plastic and Industrial Waste | Haoxing Machinery:

The following data represents common reference configurations. Final specifications may vary according to the processed material, knife design, screen opening, and project requirements.

Single shaft Shredder Model Price and Parameter Table

Important Notes

  1. Capacity figures are reference values and vary significantly depending on the processed material.

  2. The capacity for plastic film, woven bags, and hollow plastic products should be evaluated according to the material bulk density.

  3. Thick-walled pipes, plastic lumps, and engineering plastics may require higher motor power and a reinforced knife configuration.

  4. The actual output size is affected by the screen opening, material toughness, knife condition, and knife clearance.

  5. Machine selection should consider the feed size, individual piece weight, material hardness, contaminants, and downstream processing requirements rather than motor power alone.

Applicable Materials

The single shaft shredder can be used for coarse shredding, volume reduction, and recycling preparation of the following materials:

  • Plastic Recycling

Plastic lumps, injection molding waste, plastic pallets, crates, drums, sheets, thick-walled plastic pipes, PE pipes, PP pipes, plastic film, woven bags, and other plastic products.

  • Rubber and Composite Materials

General rubber products, rubber production scraps, fiber-reinforced plastics, and selected composite packaging materials. Materials containing a large amount of metal should be evaluated before processing.

  • Wood and Packaging Waste

Wood boards, wood blocks, wooden pallets, packaging boxes, cardboard, paper cores, and production offcuts.

  • Wires and Cables

Waste wires, cable coverings, and wiring harnesses before sorting, copper recovery, or copper-plastic separation.

Material Feeding Notice

The single shaft shredder is mainly used for coarse shredding, volume reduction, and recycling preparation. Materials containing heavy steel parts, large metal pieces, or hard foreign objects should be sorted before feeding or processed with a more suitable metal shredding system.
