Project Overview

Cast aluminum parts (such as engine blocks, cylinder heads, transmission cases, intake manifolds, etc.) are characterized by high hardness, uneven wall thickness, and embedded iron components (threaded inserts, water jackets, etc.), making them more difficult to shred than ordinary aluminum profiles. Using our two-shaft shredder + hammer crusher combination, engine housings are efficiently reduced to 50–80 mm lumpy particles.

From the output results:

  • Aluminum lumps are completely liberated from iron inserts – the shredded aluminum appears as irregular polyhedrons with a bright metallic luster on the fracture surface, with no residual iron threaded inserts, steel sleeves, or copper parts.

  • Iron impurities (cylinder liners, bolts, water plugs) are removed by a magnetic separator with an efficiency of over 99%, increasing aluminum purity to approximately 95%, which is ready for direct smelting in a reverberatory furnace.

  • Small amounts of oil and sealant generated during shredding are knocked off by the hammer action, and most are discharged through the dust collection system without affecting aluminum recovery quality.

Compared to traditional manual disassembly or single-stage shredding, this process increases processing efficiency by 5–8 times and raises the aluminum recovery rate by nearly 40%, while significantly reducing labor intensity. The complete line has a capacity of 3–8 tons per hour (depending on casting size), and is suitable for pre‑processing heavy scrap aluminum such as end‑of‑life engines, transmissions, and aluminum pump housings.
