Mixed Aluminum Scrap Technical Details

Mixed aluminum scrap is a common material in scrap yards, aluminum recycling plants, secondary aluminum factories and metal recovery centers. Unlike clean single-type aluminum scrap, mixed aluminum scrap usually comes from different sources and may include aluminum profiles, cast aluminum parts, aluminum sheet scrap, UBC cans, aluminum wheel scrap, aluminum engine blocks, aluminum door and window scrap and other assorted aluminum materials.

For many recycling businesses, mixed aluminum scrap is valuable but not always easy to process. The material may contain iron screws, steel parts, plastic strips, rubber seals, paint coating, dust and other impurities. If the material is not crushed and sorted properly, the final aluminum purity may be affected, and the selling value of the recycled material may be lower.

Haoxing Machinery provides practical mixed aluminum scrap recycling solutions for customers who need to reduce material size, remove impurities and improve aluminum recovery value. According to the material size, hardness, impurity condition and required capacity, we can configure a twin shaft shredder, aluminum scrap crusher, magnetic separator, eddy current separator, belt conveyor, dust collection system and electric control system.

The line can process mixed aluminum scrap into smaller and more uniform pieces. After crushing, the magnetic separator removes iron and steel parts first. Then the eddy current separator can help recover aluminum and other non-ferrous metals from the mixed material. This process is suitable for recycling plants that want to improve material purity and reduce manual sorting work.

Recommended Processing Flow

The processing flow should be designed according to the actual condition of the mixed aluminum scrap. If the material is mainly loose aluminum sheets, small offcuts or UBC cans, it can often be fed into the aluminum crusher directly. If the material contains long aluminum profiles, large cast aluminum parts, aluminum engine blocks or bulky aluminum frames, a twin shaft shredder is recommended before crushing.

A typical mixed aluminum scrap recycling line can include:

Feeding conveyor for continuous material feeding

Twin shaft shredder for large aluminum profiles, castings or bulky scrap

Aluminum scrap crusher for further size reduction

Magnetic separator for removing iron screws and steel parts

Eddy current separator for aluminum and non-ferrous metal recovery

Output conveyor for finished material discharge

Dust collection system for cleaner working environment

Electric control cabinet for production line operation

Manual sorting position, optional, for improving final material quality

Why Mixed Aluminum Scrap Needs Crushing and Sorting

Mixed aluminum scrap usually contains different shapes and different material types. Some pieces are long and light, such as aluminum profiles and aluminum window frames. Some pieces are thick and heavy, such as aluminum castings, aluminum wheel scrap and engine blocks. Some materials may also contain paint, screws, plastic or rubber.

Without proper crushing and sorting, these materials are difficult to feed, transport and separate efficiently. After shredding and crushing, the material size becomes more uniform. This makes magnetic separation and eddy current separation more effective.

For aluminum recycling plants and secondary aluminum factories, a suitable mixed aluminum scrap recycling line can help improve feeding efficiency, reduce labor cost, recover more valuable aluminum and prepare cleaner material for melting or further processing.

Equipment Selection for Mixed Aluminum Scrap

The equipment configuration depends on your material. If the mixed aluminum scrap is mainly small loose material, an aluminum crusher with magnetic separator and eddy current separator may be enough. If the material contains long profiles, window frames, aluminum engine blocks or thick castings, a twin shaft shredder can be added before the crusher.

For customers who require higher aluminum purity, sorting equipment is important. The magnetic separator removes ferrous metals first. The eddy current separator then helps separate aluminum from non-metallic and mixed materials. If the material is very complex, manual sorting positions or additional screening equipment can also be considered.

Haoxing Machinery can design a suitable recycling solution according to your material composition, capacity requirement, workshop layout and final output standard.

Custom Mixed Aluminum Scrap Recycling Line

Different recycling plants process different aluminum materials. Some customers mainly handle aluminum profiles and door-window scrap. Some customers process cast aluminum, aluminum wheels, aluminum cans, engine blocks and mixed aluminum alloy scrap. The correct equipment configuration should be selected according to the hardest, largest and most difficult material in the mix.

You can send us photos or videos of your mixed aluminum scrap, including material size, impurity condition, approximate composition, required capacity and final output requirement. Our engineers will recommend a suitable shredder, aluminum crusher, magnetic separator, eddy current separator and conveying system for your project.

Mixed aluminum scrap includes aluminum alloy scrap, cast aluminum, aluminum profile scrap, aluminum sheet scrap, aluminum offcuts, UBC cans, aluminum wheel scrap and assorted aluminum waste. Haoxing provides aluminum crushers, twin shaft shredders, magnetic separators, eddy current separators and complete recycling lines for efficient aluminum recovery.

FAQ

Scrap Metal Processing Questions

Find answers to common questions about scrap metal processing equipment, including metal crushers, shredders, recycling lines, material handling, capacity selection and operation requirements.

QWhat information is needed to configure a mixed aluminum recycling line?

A

Provide representative photos or videos, maximum material dimensions, approximate thickness, main aluminum types and the condition of attached iron, plastic or rubber. The required capacity, expected output size and intended downstream use should also be provided. Workshop dimensions, power supply and feeding method are needed when planning a complete production line.

QIs an eddy current separator required for every mixed aluminum recycling line?

A

No. An eddy current separator is useful when aluminum needs to be recovered from a mixture containing plastic, rubber or other non-metallic materials. It may not be necessary when the feed is already predominantly aluminum and magnetic separation is sufficient to remove the main ferrous attachments. The additional sorting stages should be selected according to the remaining impurities and the required output quality.

QCan aluminum be separated from plastic and rubber?

A

Crushing and shredding can release plastic strips, rubber seals and other attachments from the aluminum, but size reduction alone does not complete the separation. An eddy current separator can recover conductive aluminum from a suitably prepared non-metallic material stream. Screening, airflow separation or manual sorting may also be required when the material contains light plastic, rubber or particles of widely different sizes.

QCan a magnetic separator remove all iron from mixed aluminum scrap?

A

A magnetic separator can remove exposed iron screws, steel attachments and other ferrous components after size reduction. The actual result depends on whether the iron has been properly released from the aluminum, as well as the particle size, material layer and feeding stability. Iron parts that remain enclosed inside castings may require additional crushing or preparation.

QWhen is a twin shaft shredder required?

A

A twin shaft shredder is generally used when the aluminum scrap is too long, bulky or irregular for stable crusher feeding. Its low-speed, high-torque operation reduces large material into more manageable pieces before further crushing. A shredder is a pre-treatment machine and is not required for every mixed aluminum application.

QCan mixed aluminum scrap be crushed directly?

A

Loose aluminum sheets, small offcuts, UBC cans and properly sized aluminum pieces may be fed directly into a suitable aluminum scrap crusher. Long profiles, window frames, bulky castings and large engine components may require primary shredding or other preparation first. The decision should be based on the largest and most difficult material in the mixture.
