Haoxing Machinery's Gantry Shear, also called hydraulic gantry shear or guillotine shear, is a heavy-duty cold shearing machine for processing large scrap metal materials. It is commonly used in scrap recycling yards, steel mills, foundries, ELV dismantling yards and shipbreaking operations.

The machine usually consists of a heavy-duty frame, hydraulic cylinders, hydraulic power unit, feeding hopper, side compression system, feeding conveyor or pusher system, shear blade, discharge system and electric control cabinet.

During operation, scrap metal is loaded into the hopper and pressed by side compression cylinders. The feeding system moves the material toward the cutting area, and the hydraulic cylinders drive the moving blade downward to cut the material against the fixed bed knife. The cut material is then discharged for storage, transportation or further recycling.

The gantry shear can process different types of heavy scrap metal, including channels, I-beams, rails, car frames, truck frames, ship plates, round steel, square steel, pipes and steel plates. Shearing force, blade width, hopper size, feeding method and control system can be customized according to material type, production capacity and site layout.

Working Principle

1. Material Inspection

Scrap metal should be inspected before loading. Material dimensions, cross-section, thickness, hardness and internal construction must remain within the rated capacity of the selected gantry shear.

Sealed containers, pressure vessels, gas cylinders, batteries, fuel tanks, explosive items and hazardous materials must be removed or handled separately.

2. Material Loading

Prepared scrap is loaded into the feeding box by a grapple, crane or other suitable material-handling equipment. The feeding box dimensions and loading method are selected according to the scrap size and required capacity.

3. Hydraulic Compression

Hydraulic compression devices press loose or irregular scrap into a more manageable bundle. Compression helps control the material position and prepares it for stable feeding toward the cutting chamber.

4. Automatic Material Feeding

A hydraulic pusher or conveyor advances the compressed material toward the shear blade. The feeding distance can be adjusted according to the required cut length and material condition.

5. Hydraulic Shearing

The hydraulic cylinders drive the moving blade downward against the fixed blade. Concentrated hydraulic force cuts the prepared ferrous scrap into shorter sections.

The ability to cut a specific material depends on its cross-section, thickness, grade, hardness and position inside the cutting chamber.

6. Automatic Cutting Cycle

After each shearing stroke, the blade returns to its open position and the feeding system advances the remaining material. The machine can repeat the cycle according to the selected operating mode.

7. Material Discharge

Cut scrap is discharged below or behind the machine and collected directly or transferred by conveyor. The processed material can then be transported, sorted, baled or prepared for furnace feeding.
