Equipment Introduction

Scrap Aluminum Crusher

The scrap aluminum crusher is a high-speed hammer crushing machine used to reduce prepared aluminum scrap into smaller, screen-controlled pieces for conveying, sorting, storage and further recycling.

Typical materials include aluminum sheet offcuts, pre-cut profile sections, light aluminum alloy scrap, empty aluminum containers, small cast aluminum parts, extrusion production waste and selected mixed aluminum scrap that meets the crusher feeding requirements.

A high-speed rotor drives the hammers to repeatedly impact, deform and break the aluminum material inside the crushing chamber. The hammers, liner plates and screen grate work together to reduce the scrap, while the selected screen opening helps control the discharge size.

Properly sized aluminum scrap may enter the crusher directly. Long profiles, complete window frames, bundled aluminum and bulky irregular material may first require pre-cutting or primary size reduction by a scrap aluminum shredder.

Thick cast aluminum parts, engine housings, transmission cases and other heavy castings may require dismantling or initial processing by a cast aluminum crusher before entering a finer crushing stage.

After crushing, a magnetic separator can recover exposed screws, steel inserts, hinges and other ferrous components from the aluminum-rich material stream.

After ferrous metal removal, screening and suitable material preparation, an eddy current separator may recover conductive non-ferrous metals from an appropriate non-metallic material stream.

An eddy current separator does not normally separate different aluminum alloy grades or divide mixed aluminum, copper and zinc into individual high-purity products. Additional density separation, sensor-based sorting or manual sorting may be required when separate metal fractions are needed.

The scrap aluminum crusher can operate as an individual machine or form part of an aluminum recycling line with controlled feeding, optional primary shredding, magnetic separation, screening, airflow sorting, dust collection and centralized control.

Aluminum powder, fine aluminum chips, aluminum ash, hot aluminum dross, magnesium scrap, sealed components and materials containing unknown chemicals require a separate process and safety evaluation.

Working Principle

Scrap Aluminum Crushing Process

Material Inspection and Preparation

Scrap aluminum should be inspected before crushing. Glass, batteries, sealed components, residual oil, large steel attachments and other unsuitable materials should be removed or handled separately.

The incoming material dimensions, thickness, alloy type and attached components must remain within the feeding limits of the selected crusher.

Controlled Feeding

Prepared aluminum scrap is transferred into the crushing chamber by a conveyor or suitable feeding device. The feeding rate should match the material dimensions, bulk density and crusher load.

Long, bundled, compressed or oversized aluminum scrap may require pre-cutting or primary shredding before hammer crushing.

Hammer Crushing

A high-speed rotor drives the hammers to repeatedly impact, deform and break the material inside the crushing chamber. Friction and compression between the hammers, liner plates and screen grate further reduce the aluminum scrap.

Screen-Controlled Discharge

Material that meets the selected screen opening is discharged from the crusher, while oversized pieces remain inside for further crushing.

The actual output depends on the incoming material, hammer configuration, screen opening, feeding rate and aluminum scrap structure.

Magnetic Separation

After crushing, magnetic separation can recover exposed screws, steel inserts, hinges and other ferrous components from the aluminum-rich material stream.

Optional Screening and Material Spreading

Screening can classify different particle-size fractions and remove excessive fines. Material spreading equipment may provide more uniform feeding before subsequent sorting.

Optional Eddy Current Separation

After ferrous metal removal and suitable material preparation, eddy current separation may recover conductive non-ferrous metals from appropriate non-conductive residues.

Eddy current separation does not normally identify different aluminum alloy grades. Additional sorting equipment may be required when different aluminum products must be collected separately.

Optional Airflow Sorting

Airflow sorting may help remove protective film, foam, loose plastic, rubber and other lightweight impurities when sufficient density and aerodynamic differences exist.

Dust Collection and Material Collection

Dust collection can be configured around the crusher, screening equipment and conveyor transfer points according to the material condition and workshop requirements.

Processed aluminum, ferrous material and separated residues are transferred to their respective collection areas according to the selected recycling process.
